Interior Painting
At Elk Valley Painting, we pride ourselves on our attention to detail and a finished product you can be proud of. When Elk Valley Painting first arrives at your home, business or project site, we carefully move any furniture to the center of the room or cover fixed objects with drop sheets. We then set up our tools and equipment in a convenient location, out of your way. We will pack our tools and equipment away at the end of each day, to ensure your home or business is kept tidy and organised.
Wall Painting
We first remove all switch plates, vents etc. We then spend some time to do all the necessary masking, such as covering light fixtures and masking baseboards. This important step ensures a professional finished product. We closely inspect all the walls and then perform repairs of nail holes, dents, scratches, nail pops, and evidence of visible drywall seams. All repairs will later be spot sanded smooth, to ensure there are no rough edges showing. Following the spot repairs, we pole sand all walls from top to bottom. This step removes any imperfections from previous paint jobs and makes the walls as smooth as possible, as well as creating a good adhesive texture for the fresh paint to bond to.
Prior to applying the first coat, we dust off the walls and vacuum the area to get rid of any sanding residue, cobwebs, dust and dirt. The first coat is planned out and applied carefully. Coverage is consistent and no drips or sags are left to dry and create imperfections. Once the first coat is dry a second inspection takes place, where we ensure that any necessary areas are again sanded and primed prior to the second coat being applied. Occasionally, a third coat is necessary if a light colour is being used over a darker colour.
Once we are finished with the walls and you are satisfied, we remove the masking and replace the switch plates and vents covers. We remove the drop sheets carefully, vacuum all the work areas and move the furniture back. Before we leave your location we ensure that any leftover paint is well marked for you, our equipment and workspace is clean and there is no litter or mess left behind.
Ceiling Painting
As you no doubt appreciate, a lot of time and effort goes into painting ceilings.
When Elk Valley Painting is repainting a textured ceiling, we pay particular attention to prepping the area. Not only do we cover all furniture, fixtures and floors, we also use plastic sheeting to cover the walls unless these are also being painted. The last thing we do is remove any unwanted ceiling hooks and repair any cracks.
Now we are ready to roll your ceilings with an Acrylic Latex flat paint. We prefer Benjamin Moore's Waterborne Ceiling Paint which is excellent at hiding common ceiling imperfections for a look that is virtually flawless. There is no odor and this high quality environmentally friendly product is rated as Zero VOC.
When Elk Valley Painting paints a smooth or non textured ceiling, we use a method much like painting walls. We first inspect the ceilings for imperfections, then perform the same filling, sanding and priming steps.
The paint we use on the smooth ceilings is once again Zero VOC Benjamin Moore flat ceiling paint. Ceilings are prone to amplifying imperfections, so by using a flat paint with no shine to it, we diminish the risk of visible roller or brush marks.
After 2 coats of paint have been rolled onto the ceilings and any necessary touch ups have been done, we commence cleanup. We then move your furniture back and dispose of any litter.

The prep works for trim is extensive. There is masking, filling of nail holes and any dents, scratches or imperfections, caulking of gaps and joints then sanding and dusting. The filling and sanding is particularly important as trim is often finished in a gloss and any uneven areas stand out.
After the first coat we again fill, sand and correct any problem areas prior to applying the second coat. A third coat is occasionally required, especially if there has been a drastic color change from dark to light, or if the trim was particularly worn or damaged.
